My first exposure to the guitar was in grade school as I gave folk guitar lessons a half-hearted try. I wasn't really interested in the guitar, but accompanied my father to many of his classical guitar lessons. It wasn't until I played my first electric guitar at a friend's party (with a quarter, as he didn't have any picks) that I decided to take the guitar seriously. My mother reluctantly bought the Flying V that I wanted & signed my up for private lessons at a local music store. After playing for only three months I was asked to join my first band. Though in retrospect, I think we just took pictures...At age sixteen, after only playing a year, I began teaching (coaching) my first students. While building clientele, I gave master classes at Middle Schools and High Schools, and taught Community School Classes.
In 1995 I formed an acoustic/folk/rock band called 'Accidental Tribe'. We performed weekly at local music venues in Salt Lake City, at the University of Utah, and participated in 'The Burning Man' Festival in Nevada. We were also Interviewed by KCNR during one of their Night Life Shows. In 1996 we received 2nd place in the Best New Band category in readers poll conducted by Private Eye Weekly.
I'm presently teaching 40-60 private guitar students per week, and have made a living playing and teaching music for over twelve years. I've written an instructional book entitled "Functional Guitar" and have sold hundreds of copies with no advertising. I record, master, and duplicate my own CD's, and do all of my own graphic design using photographs I've taken. Work has begun on a follow up to 'Functional Guitar', and I have several new recordings in the works. I'm also making preparations for an instructional video and multi-media/CD.
