My teaching approach is based on the combination of 3 things: songs, music theory, and technique. Songs are the reason most people undertake learning an instrument, so I refer to songs as the "why". Music theory defines the material to be studied, forming relationships to make learning easier.
Music theory illustrates why things work and can be thought of as the "why". Technique can be defined as how an act is performed, referring specifically as "how" you can improve.
